How many copywriters use long sales letters to sell themselves?

Since I am probably the only person on Earth who
has recently clicked on every website listed by
every registered member of the main copywriting
boards (for The Ultimate Copywriting Resources
Center site), I thought I'd write about what I
found.

I did go to all member pages of Kate's forum, AWAI,
Michel Fortin and Ken Calhoun's boards.

I did not keep record of the exact numbers, but as
a general rule these findings are true and the
numbers are probably pretty close for all the 4
boards.

I did not read, explore and analyse the sites
because I'd have never finished. I did see enough
to get their general nature.

1. A large majority of the registered members of
these copywriting boards do NOT have a website in
their registration information.

Yes, this is logical for AWAI where we'd expect
most to be strictly students, but it's just as
true for the "pro" board of Michel Fortin.

2. Many, perhaps half or more, of those members
have sites that have no relation to copywriting.

So this means many people are studying copywriting
to apply it to their own online businesses, so
they're not competition.

3. The vast majority of copywriters with sites
listed that sell their copywriting services have
conventional sites.

Some of them even hide the copywriter's name under
a cute business name. Sometimes that seemed to be
because the business was a team of people. Other
times, the person behind the site wanted to remain
invisible.

Only a handful have long copy letters selling
their services.

So, if you put up a website promoting your
copywriting services with a long sales letter
promoting yourself as well as you would promote
a product for a client, you have that as an
advantage over all but a handful of other
copywriters.

The "Go To" Site for All Your Copywriting Needs

Seems crazy, but I've been so busy I haven't posted here
in quite a while, and I should be mentioning a new site
I just put up -- The Ultimate Copywriting Resource
Center.

See, when I got started learning copywriting, I searched
around the web, I got on a dozen lists and got millions
of emails a day, searched on eBay, etc.

About a month ago, I thought, what if there were
ONE site with EVERYTHING on it? Wouldn't that be
a lot easier for copywriters, especially student
copywriters?

Yeah, and if I listed all copywriters' sites, it'd
be a lot easier for clients looking for copywriters
as well.

You can blame it all on Gary Halbert, if you want.
When I bought John Carlton's Kick Ass Copywriting
Secrets of a Marketing Rebel, he also sent me a
cassette tape of a call between him and Gary Halbert
on "Go To" guys. They advised everyone to become
the "Go To" guy in your industry.

The guy (or gal) everyone goes to for information,
help, etc. The expert who gets things done.

So I created the "Go To" site for all your copywriting
needs.

Also, it was Gary Halbert I heard say (on a phone call
hosted by Michel Fortin) that "Great copywriters read
everybody." Not sure if that quote's word for word
accurate, but the meaning is. No one course, book or
seminar can teach you everything, but no one copywriter
has it all.

So we students have to learn from everyone.
